Yesterday at the Google I/O 2014 Sundar Pichai took the stage and announced the “Android One”, a new program for developing markets like India, by which OEMs can make low cost Android smartphones. This program will include a set of hardware reference platforms, which will ensure that the devices run on latest hardware and will have stock android out of the box.
3 Key Features of Android One Project
● Stock Android:- All the devices under Android One project will run stock android. And won't have Custom UI or Bloatware that you see on other android devices.
● Play Auto installs:– Pre installation of apps on the phone. OEM's will pre-install apps like Whatsapp, Hike, etc on your phone.
● Full Automatic Updates:– All the software updates will be handled directly by Google, and these devices will get the latest update just like the Nexus or Google Play edition device.
At launch event Google also showed a upcoming device by Micromax which will have a 4.5 inch screen, Dual Sim and FM Radio capabilities. India will be the first country where the "Android One" project launches A bold step by Google resulting in tons benefits for the end consumer. With "Android One" OEMs can make cheap low cost Android Smartphones running latest android version. Indian manufacturers like Micromax, Karbonn and Spice will be the first three OEM's to join the program. Most of the devices in Android One project will be priced under $100 (approx Rs. 6000). In future more smartphone manufacturers will join this program and more countries will be added later.
